Blog Log

If blogging has let aspiring writers and journalists get their scribbling read, then podcasts have given A/V geeks and ambitious broadcasters a chance to play.

With a microphone, a computer and some free software, almost anyone can make a downloadable radio-style program. There are many, many types of podcasts, and finding them can be overwhelming. A good place to start is CanadaPodcasts.ca, a directory that lists dozens of Canadian podcasts on topics ranging from parenting to business.

Of course, music figures prominently in podcasts, and if you haven’t already, check out CBC Radio3’s podcast (radio3.cbc.ca). Every week, the show encapsulates what’s going on in independent music in Canada. The rest of the CBC is also on the podcast bandwagon (www.cbc.ca/podcasting), so you can listen to Quirks & Quarks anytime you want.

If you prefer your podcasts more progressive and opinionated, download a few episodes of Rabble Radio, the flagship show of the booming Rabble Podcast Network (www.rabble.ca/rpn).
