Hear This: Gang of Losers
The Dears (Arts & Crafts)
REVIEW BY Christine Davidson
With their third full-length album, Gang of Losers, Montreal’s The Dears continue doing what they do best: creating music that reflects the messed-up side of society. Sounds like a downer, but The Dears pull it off by writing vibrant arrangements to accompany their intelligent, political lyrics. So don’t be surprised to find yourself snapping your fingers to the poppy bass lines in tunes like “Whites Only Party” and “Fear Made the World Go ’Round.” As expected, Murray Lightburn’s vocals shine and his rough drawl spotted throughout the album gives Gang of Losers the sound that makes The Dears so sweet.
