Hear This: Secondathallam
Andre Ethier (Paper Bag Records)
REVIEW BY Christine Davidson
It’s been said that Andre Ethier was born before his time. The second solo release from the front man for the rowdy Toronto outfit the Deadly Snakes, Secondathallam is a collection of simple, intimate tunes clearly influenced by the music of Bob Dylan and Lou Reed. Taking a step back from his sweaty rock roots, Ethier brings piano, horns and double bass to his solo project, making Secondathallam a more soulful album than what Deadly Snakes fans are used to. But Ethier’s coarse spontaneity is still at hand in tracks like “In With The Prim” and “Now I Wanna Be Your Dad,” so Secondathallam should impress even the grungiest rock fans.
