Hear This: Go Out and See
Near the Parenthesis (Music Made By People)
REVIEW BY Christine Davidson
Near the Parenthesis is Tim Arndt, an electronic musician from San Francisco who has been involved in the experimental music scene over the years. Arndt’s current project, Go Out and See, is produced by Music Made by People, an independent Toronto record label that was launched in 2004. With its dreamy Boards of Canada sound, Go Out and See consists of gentle compositions that balance sine waves with simple melodies. For instance, in the album’s fifth track, “the evasion of like,” the beat is gritty, at times inconsistent, forcing the listener to pay attention to the music’s complexity. Near the Parenthesis’ Go Out and See is soulful work and represents a new age of electronic music.
