Hear This: I’m A Mountain

Sarah Harmer (Universal)

REVIEW BY Christine Davidson

Sarah Harmer’s recent album, I’m a Mountain, is a collection of country and bluegrass melodies that emulate the warm sound of country masters like Townes Van Zandt or Emmylou Harris. In her fourth solo release, Harmer includes some impressive covers like Dolly Parton’s “Will He Be Waiting for Me?” and Luther Wright’s “Luther’s Got the Blues.” But beyond the carefree sounds of the banjo and fiddle, Harmer makes brave moves by taking on topics like the conflict in Southern Ontario over the Niagara Escarpment, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Harmer grew up on the escarpment, which is under serious threat from the aggregate industry. With songs like “I Am Aglow,” “Oleander” and “Goin’ Out,” I’m a Mountain brings Harmer’s fans the sweet tunes they have come to love.
